Marcelo Bozza

Marcelo T. Bozza, M.D. Ph.D., is Titular Professor of the Department of Immunology of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Bozza has studied different molecular and cellular aspects associated with resistance to infection. His studies demonstrated a critical role of the MIF cytokine in the inflammatory response and tissue damage in models of viral, bacterial, protozoal and helminth infections. It was the first to demonstrate that heme causes inflammation through the activation of innate immune receptors, playing an essential role in the pathogenesis of hemolytic diseases. More recently, his group has been studying the immune response to zika virus infection in mouse models of the disease and in the development of vaccines. Dr. Bozza is the author of more than 70 scientific articles. His studies have been published in leading journals in the field, including: Nature Communications, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Experimental Medicine, PNAS, and Blood. Dr. Bozza is Researcher 1A of CNPq and was Professor at a Chair Capes: Sorbonne Universite in 2016. A complete list of your publications can be foundĀ here.
