Mauro M. Teixeira, M.D. Ph.D., is Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Dr. Teixeira coordinates a large research group interested in the study of inflammation in the context of infection and sterile inflammation. Particularly, Dr. Teixeira has been studying the role of inflammation in microbial versus host interaction with the goal of developing new anti-inflammatory therapies to treat the infection. More recently, it has concentrated its efforts on the generation of new animal models, research tools and new therapeutic strategies to deal with the zika and dengue crisis. Dr. Teixeira is the author of more than 700 scientific articles. His studies have been published in leading journals in the field, including: Nature, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Experimental Medicine, PNAS, Blood and Plos Pathogens. Dr. Teixeira is Researcher 1A of CNPq and was elected a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Science and Member of TWAS (the Third World Academy of Sciences).
