Ricardo Gazzinelli

Ricardo T. Gazzinelli, M.D. Ph.D., is a Full Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, FIOCRUZ Researcher Ribeirão Preto and Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Gazzinelli coordinates a large research group interested in understanding the role of innate immunity in host resistance and pathogenesis to infection by protozoan parasites. In addition, it conducts studies aimed at the development of vaccines that induce cell-mediated immunity and protection against protozoal infections. Dr. Gazzinelli is the author of more than 250 scientific articles. His studies have been published in leading journals in the area, including: Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, PNAS, Cell Host Microbe and Plos Pathogens. Dr. Gazzinelli is Researcher 1A of CNPq and was elected a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Science and Member of TWAS (the Third World Academy of Sciences).
