Yang Xia, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor and McGovern Scholar at the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Texas McGovern Medical School at Houston, USA. Dr. Xia performs translational research on cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, preeclampsia, priapism, chronic kidney disease and sickle cell disease. It also conducts preclinical studies using pharmacological and genetic approaches to determine the pathophysiological role of newly identified molecules in animal models. In addition, it conducts translational human research to determine whether newly identified pathogen markers can be used as diagnostic markers for early detection or as therapeutic targets for disease. Dr. Xia is the author of more than 90 scientific articles and book chapters. His studies have been published in leading journals in the field, including: Nature Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Nature Communications, and Circulation. Dr. Xia received several awards including several Young Investigator Awards, Lyndon Baines Johnson Research Award, Outstanding Early Career Development Award, Excellent Academic Achievement Award, McGovern Scholar and Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award, University of Texas McGovern Medical School at Houston.
